Ada with my great aunt, the younger sister of Ada's great grandmother whom she is named after (Jinju, which means Pearl in Korean), in Queens. Sassoon Kim, my great aunt, became the very first female judge in Korea. Here she is playing with Ada...
Sometimes I think that Ada thinks she is not a baby. Ada has never sucked on pacifiers - always refused them - but now, when we are playing, she'll find one, stick it in her mouth, giggle and look at me like, "ma, look...ga ga ga...I'm pretending to be a baby." To compound my suspicions, Ada loses interest in babies her own age, wanting to be around bigger kids instead. She'll greet babies with smiles but then look bored, looking around for the big kids.
This is why Ada loves the playground. She'll excitedly jump up and down when watchingt the older kids playing on the jungle gym and in the sprinklers, wanting to be part of the action. That means I have to stand in the sprinklers too, hee hee...drenched, holding her up while the big kids run around little Ada, who squeals and squeals with delight. Ada particularly loves three year old to five year olds. I'm amazed...we'll be in some public space and if she hears, far off in the distance, the sound of kids, she'll concentrate on the sound, looking for them.
On this rainy Saturday afternoon, Chris, Ada, and I walked over to the Painted Cloud, a neighborhood Arts & Craft space, to watch Chris's former roommate Anna (aka The Good Miss Padgett) sing songs with her band for the kiddies. Ada is crazy about Anna's daughter Penelope, who, at the age of 2.5, is so nurturing and sweet with Ada. Look how excited Ada is in these photos!
