In the beginning, the thought of bringing Ada out and about and onto the subway felt so ...overwhelming. I'd have to pack up a diaper bag, bundle her up, and stuff her into the stroller. Then I'd have to consider how I was going to lug both the heavy stroller and heavy baby up and down subway stairs. In the first couple of months, I avoided the subway altogether, opting to stick with our neighborhood in Brooklyn instead. But then, I missed my old hangouts in Manhattan...getting a coffee and reading magazines at the Barnes & Nobles on Union Square, getting a sushi lunch at the fish market at Chelsea Market, studying at my favorite cafes in the West Village. Convinced I needed to get back to these little pleasures in life, little by little I ventured further and further out with Ada.
The first time I took the subway with Ada, on my own and without Chris, a kind stranger offered to help me carry the stroller up and down the subway stairs. Ever since, New Yorkers have offered me help every single time. I love this city - people are soooo good. Anyways, I usually say thanks but no thanks...thanks to zee bebe - so big and heavy - I've developed really strong arms to lift that stroller by myself!
