Scary piano
My parents bought Ada this scary piano (um, how many years did my mother force me to practice the piano? It fostered my love for the piano...but for other people, not me, playing it). Here she is testing out the keys for the first time. She looks up at her dad to say, "oh? and it makes a sound?"
It turns out that she is terrified of the thing. If you turn on a certain button, the instruments "anthropomorphize" and start dancing, which is really scary, even to me. Then some eery digitized voice comes on and sings...whoa, scary. Like every other thing we have, she'll love it in a couple of months...

Comfort Blankie

Ada loves her little comfort blankie - it helps her go to sleep. As soon as she is in her bed, she looks for it, immediately, on her right hand side. Then, she rubs it all over her face to help her fall asleep.I searched online for this comfort blankie. There are all sorts of marketing ploys for comfort blankies. Some advertise how important "organic" materials are for "comfort." I found one site that advertised a blankie with special fibers that especially stuck with mom's scent. In in the end, I wanted a comfort blankie that Ada would have as a keepsake when she was older.
When the blankie showed up in the mail, Chris poked fun at me for buying such a "ridiculous" thing. "You bought a napkin?!?!" he exclaimed. "But it provides comfort!" I explained...
To all the moms out there. If you are trying to get your small child to sleep and hate to hear crying, please run out and buy a comfort blankie! Yes...a napkin will also do. Ada's ability to soundly fall asleep is testament to the power of the blankie. All babies need woobies...
Btw: Whenever she feels annoyed about going down for a nap, she turns her body sideways and ends up sleeping this way...funny girl.
Hands
Ada has become so dexterous with her hands lately....she can now maneuver her giraffe into her mouth which is so soothing for the teething...
Riding the Subway

In the beginning, the thought of bringing Ada out and about and onto the subway felt so ...overwhelming. I'd have to pack up a diaper bag, bundle her up, and stuff her into the stroller. Then I'd have to consider how I was going to lug both the heavy stroller and heavy baby up and down subway stairs. In the first couple of months, I avoided the subway altogether, opting to stick with our neighborhood in Brooklyn instead. But then, I missed my old hangouts in Manhattan...getting a coffee and reading magazines at the Barnes & Nobles on Union Square, getting a sushi lunch at the fish market at Chelsea Market, studying at my favorite cafes in the West Village. Convinced I needed to get back to these little pleasures in life, little by little I ventured further and further out with Ada.
The first time I took the subway with Ada, on my own and without Chris, a kind stranger offered to help me carry the stroller up and down the subway stairs. Ever since, New Yorkers have offered me help every single time. I love this city - people are soooo good. Anyways, I usually say thanks but no thanks...thanks to zee bebe - so big and heavy - I've developed really strong arms to lift that stroller by myself!

Veiled Bebe

Sometimes Ada and I fall asleep on the couch together. On the day this photo was taken, I was wearing my navy blue scarf. She kept burying her head into the scarf as she fell asleep - it's my smell that is comforting. First she'd play around with the scarf, and then throw it over her head. Once she was finally asleep, I pulled the scarf off of her face - it would get me so paranoid...can she breath under there?! But every time I'd remove the scarf, she'd just throw it back onto her face!

Bundle Up!
We thought we were heading into Spring...after all it was in the 50s last week. We woke up today with over a foot of snow! It is freezing out, but does that stop girlfriend from wanting to go outside? No way! You should see me driving a stroller out in puddles of snow. Ada is like, "faster, faster, bumpier the better!" It was a workout for me and Ada loved watching the snow fall...
Cousins
Here is Ada and her cousin Caroline, aka Miss Ziggy Roo, saying hi to each other. We love that Ziggy and her mama Merrianne live just 20 minutes away in Queens! Caroline is a few months older than Ada. She is so dexterous with her hands, has a permanent open smile on her face, big big blue eyes just like her mama, chubby thighs and chubby fingers, and is such a mellow baby. We love the idea of Ziggy and Ada growing up together...and we love spending time with our cousin Merrianne.
Say Goodnight
