It feels like yesterday...

I dunno how old Ada is here...I think just a week old! Babies get cuter and cuter with time, but their bug-like qualities in the beginning are just too adorable...

Chris built Ada's little room in just three days! I didn't think we needed a nursery but he thought it would be a good idea for the privacy. It's true...Ada already knows that this is her room - it's where she reads books, takes naps, and goes to bed.

I never thought I was going to be one of those overbearing moms who dress their daughters in matching outfits. I remember my own mom trying to put me in little frilly outfits and absolutely hating it. To this day I give attitude, like, "Mom! Can you just stop fussing with my hair?"

Fussing must mean love or something, because I find myself picking at Ada here and there, combing her hair over, picking her nose, and dressing her in the same colors I myself am wearing for the day. Between the last post and this one you are all thinking, "Mommy Dearest" (although remember that scene where Christina didn't eat her steak, so Mommy Dearest made her eat it cold the next morning? I remember watching that and thinking,...awesome...). I guess the cycle of insanity continues. Anyways, here we are enjoying the end of the day with some music. Le bebe is so sleepy...

BTW that mobile was MADE and given to us by our dear friend Matt. We love it and Ada loves staring at it before going to bed...

PS: I am thinking of chopping all that hair off...what do you think? Tell me the next time we are on the phone...

Ada plays with her feet

Crazy stage mom?

Yes. I sound truly insane in this one. I promise I am not one of those pageant moms! Ada woke up doing this funny thing with her mouth. Chris and I were amazed because she'd do it, then we'd do it, and then she'd do it again. We didn't know who was mimicking who! I wanted to get it on video, but by afternoon she was like, "Oh, I forget." It's hilarious to see her practice at it...

Crabby

Here's Ada getting all crabby before her morning nap. In the last photo she's like, "Who me? Tired? Naw. I'm ready to go outside actually."

Naps, Before and After

I am a small human

Lately, Ada likes standing. She can't do it on her own, so we hold her up. I think she looks hilarious because all her proportions are so miniature. Babies look so funny because they have short arms and legs, but really big heads. Don't you love the close-up of her thighs? I want to keep them as chubby as possible. I want to munch on them too. Oh, and can you see Ada's swing in the background? Chris and I bought that thing out of desperation when Ada was about 5 weeks old, when we didn't understand that 5 week old babies cry. She hated it then but loves it now. Actually, every time we put a baby in that thing they all stare at this knob up top and get really happy and excited like it's catnip, which is so weird. It's like the swing is the baby whisperer talking some secret baby language to babies. Oh, and you know who else loves Ada's swing? Chico, Jul's dog. She was like, "Would it be too weird of me to go out and buy this baby swing for my dog?" hee hee.

Our little chimp

Doesn't Ada look like a little baby chimp on Chris's back? It was so sweet of our cousin Alicia to send us the "Baby Ergo" which is all the rage in our neighborhood. The straps are wide so it's nice and comfy and you feel like you're wearing a backpack. Ada complains when we strap her on our bodies in front...something about not being able to see out...so Chris straps her on his back, which is the way I remember being carried around by my mom and her friends (tied on with a blanket). Ada loves it and Chris gets to wash the dishes!

Our Family

Best Friends Forever

Sunworship

We headed over to Michael's place for his birthday. His apartment is super cozy and his bedroom gets incredible sunlight. As folks in the front room were enjoying champagne and snacks, Ada and I had a little downtime in Michael's back bedroom, enjoying the sun as it went down for the day.

Ada and Uncle Michael

Uncle Michael is a huge help when he comes over. Chris gets to shoot at things on his xbox, and I get a little break from holding chubster. Ada is a bit cranky here from her teething - she yanks at her ears because of the pain. Poor girl...

Ada in the morning

Ada always has so much to tell us early, real early in the morning...

Ada studying her hands

Ada sleeping

She sleeps with her mouth open, just like her dad. She is also a light sleeper, just like her dad.

Papa

Here is Ada's hot papa. I am one lucky woman, seriously. Ada gets up at 7:15 am (uh, but lately its been 6:15), usually on the dot. Chris gets her out of bed and lets me linger in bed to snooze an extra hour. I don't know what the two are up to, but I always hear squeals and giggles coming from the living room. They make coffee together, sometimes wash dishes, read a book, check email...by the time 9am rolls around, Ada is ready for her nap!

Discovering feet

Ada now knows she has feet! We put colorful socks on her and she likes to stare down at them, wiggling her toes. She loves getting her diaper changed..something about feeling free without clothes. As soon as she gets changed she throws her feet up, kicking and grabbing them.

Playing...

Kath & Ada

I have known Kath (and her twin Jul) since I was 5 years old! We all grew up down the street from one another and they made me feel like I was their triplet (along with Beth their other sister). I grew up eating Anne's amazing Italian meals and wished so hard that I was Italian American myself.

I was overjoyed when Kath shared the news that she is pregnant and she is due at the end of this month. Over the weekend, Ada and I drove to upstate New York to attend Kath's baby shower. It was such a beautiful day and so lovely to get out of the city for a moment. The trees were covered in snow. The shower was so much fun. Here is Kath looking all hip in her beautiful dress. Every time she opened up a gift I was like, "oooo...girl, you are going to need that!" Ada did so well being passed around the room, being her cute and charming self. As we took this picture Kath said, "say cheese Ada! You are sitting on top of your new friend!" Its so fun to think about our kids being friends...I love Kath and Jul so much...I have too many amazing childhood memories with them.

I love

nap time together...

I'm still learning

how to work this blog...even though this video is upside down, you still get to hear Ada's squeals when she looks at herself in the mirror. Uh-oh, are we raising an extremely narcissistic child? Whenever we look in the mirror we sing that Carly Simon song, "Your so vain...you probably think this song is about you..." It's hilarious. Anyways, if I were Ada, I'd want to stare at myself all day long in the mirror too. By the way, I cringe when I hear my voice on this. Yes, I permanently sound like this all the time. If you call me on the phone I will answer, "Did you have a nice nappie?"

In my bebe pod...

Thanks to Julia for this bebe pod. Ada loves to play with it. She spins and spins and spins the toy until she becomes too frustrated because she can't put it in her mouth, hee hee. Isn't Ada's little hair pin totally ridiculous? I've been putting it on her lately because it gets real tiring to always have to say, "she's a girl." Eh...so much for keeping her clothes all gender neutral.
